Compassion Is A Verb

Are the times we are living in different than the times when Jesus walked the face of the earth? Let's see, people struggling financially and seeking answers, check; incurable diseases, check; politics, check; How about religious legalists telling people how to live their lives while not practicing their own teachings? Let's check that too!.

The Unity message of healing and prosperity has inspired millions since its humble beginnings in 1889. Our teachings are as applicable today as they were then. Perhaps as a movement we have not done much in terms of social action, feeding the needy, etc. That seems to be changing, thanks God.

But, my question is, what can you and I do? What would be the most effective thing that we could do to help ease the pain of those that are struggling and hurting?

This Sunday, we will ponder some of these questions.

ll 17/1.16 Mysteries of Genesis (page 22) states that the living creatures symbolize the thoughts that swarm in the mind. They are alive and create after their own kind. Birds represent ideas approaching spiritual understanding. They are above earthly thought and carry the mind upward toward the higher realm of Spirit.

How good is to have all the wisdom in the world and to understand everything there is to understand if we lack the will to take such wisdom into some sort of action? How good is to have all the willingness to do something while lacking the necessary wisdom and understanding to execute the task?

In her book, "Let There Be Light", Elizabeth Sand Turner, a disciple of Charles Fillmore, writes: "Understanding itself is of little value unless it is expressed by the activity of the will, and man's will is a power for good only when it is grounded in understanding."
